Treatment

Physiotherapy appointments begin with an assessment to enable the physiotherapist to set goals for treatment. This consists of a case history, static assessment, dynamic assessment, palpation and range of motion assessment.

Following this, your physiotherapist will select appropriate treatment. Treatment may consist of manual techniques, electrotherapy and remedial exercise.

Manual Therapy

'Hands on' techniques to relieve pain, facilitate healing and optimise function

Massage

Various massage techniques will be used throughout treatment to influence muscle tone. Massage increases blood flow to muscles, thus delivering oxygen to enhance healing. Similarly to humans, massage is great for maintenance, relaxation, rehabilitation, pre-exercise and post-exercise.

Myofascial Release

Stretches

Following trauma or postural changes, fascia can solidify, thicken and shorten, therefore restricting movement. Myofascial release helps return the fascial to its original state, thereby reducing pain and improving movement.

Stretching improves joint range of movement, muscular flexibility and provides pain relief. This can improve performance and assist in rehabilitation.

Electrotherapy

Treatments to aid healing and provide pain relief

TENS

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation.

Electrical impulses to reduce pain signals going to the brain and spinal cord, therefore promoting pain relief and relaxation of muscles.

LASER

Low-Level Laser Therapy is a non-invasive infrared light that accelerates repair, reduces inflammation and provides pain relief.

Remedial Exercise

Exercises included as part of a home exercise plan to increase and improve muscular strength and performance

Remedial exercises are a crucial component of physiotherapy. Exercises will be selected to create a bespoke exercise programme to encourage correct movement, improve muscular strength, balance, body awareness and prevent injury.
